The Great Fox Illusion by Justyn Edwards

Book Description:

Magic is about dreaming what is impossible and making it possible. It’s the innocent young mind in all of us that loves it. We want to be filled with wonder. We want to believe. I want the winner of this competition and the recipient of my legacy to dare to dream big. So, let The Great Fox Hunt begin.

The Great Fox, one of the world’s most famous magicians, has died. And Flick Lions has won a place on the television show where contestants will compete to win Fox’s legacy.

But Flick isn’t interested in uncovering tired old tricks. She’s after something much more important.

The Great Fox destroyed her family. Now is Flick’s chance to find the greatest magic trick of all and bring her father home.

Review:

Full of magic this gripping new mystery adventure will have you hooked from the very first page. I loved the modern reality feel to this story whilst following Flick’s journey to protect her family and bringing them back together.

This book is perfect for fans of magic (of course), fantasy books but also middle grade books like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. The Great Fox Illusion is special and a book I will remember for a long time. I believe there are going to be more in the series…. and if so I really hope there is. A story about hope, family, loyalty and courage there is also a sense of mystery throughout the story and the answers are there the whole time but I didn’t spot them… until I had finished! This is a book I am more than happy to read again and I think it would be a perfect addition to our book club reads once published as there is a lot that can discussed.

Full of diverse characters, The Great Fox Illusion, is written sensitively whilst being full of twists and turns throughout which helps to keep the reader engaged with the story as they uncover how the magic tricks have been performed.. I loved it.

Every school library needs a copy of this book in their libraries especially for our magic trick fans!

About the Author:

Justyn Edwards graduated from Southampton University with a degree in archaeology. Since then he has worked as a caravan park attendant, a paperboy and a software engineer, but never as an archaeologist. He has always wanted to be a writer, and his inspiration for The Great Fox Illusion came from watching magic shows. He realized that what elevates the trick a magician performs is the story that he tells his audience. And in turn, stories themselves are a kind of magic trick with the author choosing when to reveal his secrets to the reader…. And so, Justyn’s debut novel was born.
