Gracie Fairshaw and the Trouble at the Tower by Susan Brownrigg

Book Description:

The stage is set for a thrilling mystery.

Grace Fairshaw is delighted to get a sneak preview of the Children’s Ballet’s Christmas spectacular. But when the curtain rises, things go horribly wrong for the young dancers.

Accidents, pranks and a poison pen letter make Gracie wonder if someone is trying to spoil the show.

Can Gracie and her friends stop the saboteur before their final act?

Review:

Wow what a book! I could leave my review at that but I am sure you would like me to elaborate a little bit more… Gracie Fairshaw and the Trouble at the Tower is set in Blackpool in the 1930’s. I live close to Blackpool and visit frequently and I love how I can picture the scenes so well. Of course, this is because I have seen them in real life but also because Susan’s descriptions are just exquisite. I felt I was there the whole way through.

Blackpool Tower is so iconic and I love that this is the focus throughout her story. I didn’t know about the tower’s popular children’s ballet and it is always nice to keep learning through reading wonderful stories. The main heroine, Gracie, makes a wonderful young detective. She is funny, full of life, determined and wants to help everyone around her. I think my favourite character has to be her brother, George, who is just so cheeky and how a younger brother should be, I like that he causes mischief and brings fun into the story.

Even though this book is the second instalment in the Gracie Fairshaw series you do not have to read book one (although I recommend it as it is also an amazing read.) I like that you can pick this book up as a stand alone story as it is has a different crime waiting to be solved but this is also a testament to Susan’s fabulous writing.

Gracie Fairshaw and the Trouble at the Tower is perfect for any young mystery lover including fans of Robin Stevens, Katherine Woodfine and Sophie Cleverley. I cannot wait to buy this instalment for my school library.

This book is action packed from start to finish with twists and turn throughout and I cannot recommend it enough – please read it!

After attending the NYA Lit Fest in Preston and meeting Susan I am very pleased to mention that she is writing another Gracie Fairshaw book so there is more to come in this fabulous series.

Other titles in the Gracie Fairshaw series include:

Gracie Fairshaw and the Mysterious Guest

You can buy/pre-order this fabulous book from all booksellers, online and of course using any independent local bookshop.
