Get Caught Reading Raffle

A ‘Get Caught Reading Raffle’ is another initiative I use to help promote ‘reading for pleasure’ within my School Library.

Students must be reading in silence in the library during break and/or lunch in order to be given a raffle ticket either by a member of staff on duty or a Student Librarian. Raffle tickets are then placed in a jar and drawn by the Literacy Co-ordinator every half term.

The winner will receive a goodie bag of books, stationary, bookmarks what ever I have spare in my prizes box to be honest. These will be presented in their year assembly by their year manager along with a certificate. They will also get a mention in the library newsletter.

Students can be entered numerous times into the draw but only once every break or lunch! The more the students read the more chance they have of winning.

This is a great initiative as it doesn’t have to cost too much. A book of raffle tickets doesn’t cost much and any prizes are always gratefully received by students.

This has increased the amount of students reading during break and lunch in the school library as students want a chance of winning a goodie bag.
